Thanks for posting those photos Barry, the rear indicator brackets shown are not correct for the early Js, they mounted directly onto the frame spigot for these bikes. I also suspect that solenoid is not correct, as far as I know there was only one style of solenoid for all the GT750s

The rear indicator mounts look odd but I am certain the early solenoids were like this.

Barry you are correct, after looking through the old J and K parts books those round solenoids were in use for those models. The part numbers being 31800-09031 for the round one as seen in your photo, was fitted for the J and K models and 31800-37020 for the later models with the square top.
There is some debate on the rear indicator mountings, the very early J models such as the one in the photo with the brake pedal pivot on the footrest seemed to have a longer stemmed rear indicator that screwed directly into the frame hole and did not use the bracket as shown in the photo. Notice in your photos the collar under the frame tube for the bolt in the bracket is not fitted simply because its not there on that frame.
This technically means those early J bikes had a different rear indicator stem since it would have to be longer to protrude off the frame the correct amount.

I have an early J frame made just after the brake pivot change over and it does not have the rear indicator mount collar under the frame either and theres no signs of it ever being removed.
Two strokes, its just that simple.

I see that bike has a fan...... my new purchase hasn't. When and why did they decide to drop the fitting of a fan please ?

The fans were fitted, mostly to the American market, ( hot country's) as over heating was a problem, sitting in traffic, hence the name in the states.. The boiler.

In the UK, the fan was not needed (for the 1 day of sun we get here in the UK) All the kettle wiring, has the extra wire, (unless it's been cut off) for the fan, but you will need to add a relay, ( it sits under the tank, on the top right on the frame right of the coils ) and a thermostat switch, where the thermostat hosing is, but on most, kettles it's blanked off.
You could drill and tap, or just look for one with the threaded hole, for the thermostat switch. for me, makes part of the j look! I restored a fan and a relay, re-zincked. (same as in photo 60) Came out OK, WHY?? cos i wanted to see what's in the box, and cos i can. I found this one on eBay, if you need one? Thanks for the info KB. I'll try not to sit in heavy traffic for too long, but other than that, I'll not bother messing around too much if a fan isn't necessary. I'm only wary because GPZ900Rs run very hot, and a fan is absolutely essential - to the point that many owners fit a manual overide to activate it, for peace of mind.

Have owned a number of kettles over the years, but currently am without. I am planning to buy another for restoration later this year.I have always been an "A" fan,but have decided to get a "J" this time. These pictures are fantastic and have just confirmed my choice. Here we go again, trawling autojumbles/fleabay, etc for those hard to get parts.Any ideas who are the better contacts for NOS parts thesedays.I used to use "SuzukiDave", but he seems to have retired. I noticed yesterday that the chap in Co. Armagh, "Broadwater", was selling a new L/H handlebar lever assembly and there seems to be plenty of bits about, if you have the money. Will put some pics on when i make my purchase.If anyone knows of a complete UK "J" for restoration let me know. Not to bothered about exhausts as it's going to get "spannies" anyway

If you mean the tank and side panels are missing we remove them before transporting and use a test tank instead.
