Re: Suzuki Factory Colour names GT bikes U.K. market place

Post by didge »

On our www.vjmc-tb.co.uk forum someone has posted a link to the suzukicycles.com site and suggested the first BLACK kettle was a 1975 M model, it even includes a picture of it, yet on the listing it makes no mention of black, only grey, red, and gold.

I quote ........" You will find a picture of the first black kettle, an M model, not popular so not many ever sold "

Your thoughts please.

It's not that interesting Ian, honest, I happened to mention I had a kettle weather vane at one of our VJMC meets,, and it went on from there............

Well - as it is snowing here again today with more snow forecast for tomorrow, sad to say its the trivia which almost keeps us borderline sane ! About that black Kettle - I'm wondering if it isn't actually a Japanese market 1974 olive green one like this example ?

Image

In different lighting, it looks black.

Also on your VJMC site there is a red model J

Any idea if its original paint ? If so, that might also be a Japanese market model - probably pearl red. Might be able to tell by the frame number.

The "red" J was painted in candy lavander, the paint was supplied by RS bike paints (a well respected company here in the UK) using the correct base and everything as it should, you are right though, it DOES look red, but the camera has lied to you, it's not red, honest.

It was mine, and that funny looking thing holding it up is me, I sold it so I could buy my A, which I adore, i'd have babies with it if I could. ;-)

A friend of mine here in Calgary has an all original, including the paint, model J in the Candy Lavender - although he insists that we refer to it as 'man-genta' !! Image

Well - it is actually more purple-ish than out and out 'pink' - depends how the light catches it. Of course, a high percentage of men are colour blind in reds, so my brother would say its actually a nice shade of brown Image. Here's a couple of pics of Wade's all original bike here in Cow Town.

Definitely man-genta, not pink !
