I know I'm abusing the general chat section as this is not a two wheel beast but I am old now and don't care any more

Ripped out the result of the "quality restoration" that the PO paid a fortune for

So they essentially slapped an over arch on it and filled the rest

This is why I don’t muck about with cars!
Too many places for the tin worm to hide
Many moons ago I had a type two VW camper, I spent every other weekend cutting rotten tin out of it and sticking repair panels back on. And then there was my painting skills :tw

I had loads of old classic cars.. Mercedes 220 se ( 1965 ) mercedes 280 se ( same as the one in the advert) rover P5b 3.5 coupe, .. jag xjc 4.2..coupe to name a few... have you found someone to do the welding?.. keep the photos coming.. where about are you?

Yep, 1983 280SL (W107 body)

Owned it for 17 years after buying it off a retired accountant. The rear arches were clearly bodged but he spent a fortune on a new front end which has held up well. I've restored front floors and the pesky bulkhead so this is the last bit to put right. It was Zierbarted from new so is lasting well.

I restored cars (Mini Clubmans x 2. Mk 111 Cortina, 67 MGB Roadster -A basket case that started off as a set of wheels and a floor pan  ) before getting back into bikes so I will be doing the tin work myself.
