Went to Olivers Mount Road Races last weekend. Not on GT but my Honda Blackbird,Camping and a beer tent on site what could be better? Then after they finished a quick thrash around the circuit. Decided to extend our stay for a couple of days going up A64 to York. Next day rode Pickering to Whitby then Scarborough again. On Way back A64 near Malton whilst overtaking at about 70mph hit a piece of scaffolding bar on carriageway. This tore a chunk out of the sump and dumped 4 litres of oil over back tyre. Nowhere to stop rode to sliproad and switched bike off without it seizing!
I was a tad lucky i think.

Re: One of my nine lives used up
You were lucky........ Back in 2009 I was on my way to the Lake District for a club GPZ 900 weekend with my son driving behind in the car with all the camping gear. I was on the A65 coming up behind a lorry that I was going to overtake at about 70 mph when I hit a square ' foot ' that had dropped off a portakabin and was in the middle of the road.
The lorry straddled it and I never saw it, until my arse was two foot in the air with my legs flapping wildly ( according to my son ).
Both tyres blew but miraculously I stayed on and managed to bring the bike to a safe stop.
Got the bike recovered and then carried on to the campsite with my son in the car and had several beers to calm myself down.......

Re: One of my nine lives used up
I was very lucky and fair play to the bike 2 1/2 minutes it ran after dumping the oil. I know because i was wearing a GoPro at the time.
One thing did surprise me. I was at roadside for 2 hrs and i must have had 30 bikes go past me but no-one stopped to offer help or even acknowledged me. I suppose thats another result of Covid

There seems to be more debris on the roads these day.
You had a lucky escape. It’s a shame to end a good weekend of weather and Racing in that way.
Still you got home safely.

Hi Barney, glad you're ok mate,as Alan said had it been your GT550 it would have been an even more sad day,
I see so much stuff on the road here, large lengths of steel bar, builders waste, timber, leaking paint, extremely dangerous out there.
