Best Two Stroke Oil

Post by simonz1red »

I've now bought a lovely GT550K but before giving her a good run I want to top up the two stroke oil tank. The problem is I don't know on what she currently runs. How can I tell? What is the best oil to now use? Is it a bad idea to simply top up the tank without knowing what's currently in it? Looking forward to hearing from you.

I think each person might give you a different answer if you asked them what the best oil is.

Just beware it depends on how long the oil has been sat in that bike IMO ;) after all It does have a shelf life.
Personally i would run as low as possible or empty it out and start from scratch with your chosen oil.

For what its worth... I have used Silkolene Super 2 in the gt750,gt550 & gt380 and RE5 when its back together. I did drain all the old oil out before using the new oils. They have been fine for many 1000's of miles with that oil.

When you drained your oil tank to refill it with the new stuff, how did you purge the lines to make sure no air got into the pump?
