Just use the old gaskets for now. Will be quite noisy without the mufflers :D
If you look here you can see the gap between the collar and the cylinder

"Leccy" I meant a small screwdriver used for electrics :D

Hi Barney, thanks for the video I will definitely use that trick when installing the pipes again. Out of boredom on my way in this evening I kicked the bike over a couple times and it would not run. I then remembered I hadn't reinstalled the SRIS fittings and lines. Will it run without them? Still didn't put the pipes back on.. I am going to wait till I get the new gaskets they are a pain to take on and off.

I thought the leak stopped... I was wrong. I finally put the pipes back on ran it and its leaking again. While it sat for a few months it really didn't leak any gear oil. just right initially after I parked it. Going a little crazy looking for the leak.

So have you decided whether that is transmission oil or engine oil? There is a very common fault whereby the oil seal behind the gear indicator switch fails and weeps oil. You need to take off the sprocket cover and clean the whole area with kerosene so you can see where the oil is weeping from.

Hi Barney, before I saw your reply I was already in the garage pulling the cover off so I didn't get a chance to clean anything up too good yet.. I got it off and believe I have found the leak! It is surely gear oil as the 2 cycle oil I use is dark blue. Unfortunately it does not look to be an easy fix... Please see the picture below. I have also cleaned out the small oil pool that builds up, ran the bike and the oil is back.. Not sure what this thing could be some sort of pin?

Can you take a photo a bit further back so we can see where it is located? I have a 76 550 so I might be able to help if I can pin point the place of the leak. Kev

Hi Kev, Please see the attached photo. It may look like the gear indicator (I believe I circled it) is leaking too. Also Barney When I took the cover off I got a mouse nest out.. I am gonna start cleaning now. to confirm but I am pretty sure it is that initial pin leaking.. possibly the kicker shaft?
