Fork top NUT...... NOT!

Post by arthur »

I thought I would re-fresh the oil in the forks on my 75 GT 380 however they have no threaded nut in the top of the tube just a circlip holding the top spacer down and so the internals in (I have never seen this done before
It a good job the springs are so soft I could have taken my eye out :D
NOTE TO SELF
COVER THE TUBE TOP WITH A RAG TO CATCH THE BITS NEXT TIME

The first time I did it, the plug shot up and smashed the overhead light

Glad it not just me then :D
But how do you get the sliders out of the lower legs?
there are no allen type bolts in the leg bottoms and looking down the tubes reveal no obvious nut to undo

Hi

Puzzled by that. M 380 fork bottoms have allen bolts retaining the plungers. Are you sure they aren't just filled with crud? A picture would help. Kev

Hi Its me being dumb I had not removed the spindle bearing /spacer so could not see the bolt
All apart now, but more grit than a John Wayne film in the bottom of the legs and the plastic/nylon piston ring was in three bits in the left leg .
100 ml of oil in the left 200 ml in the right and more notches in the headrace than Casanova's bed post
She is in need of some TLC good thing winter is coming .
