I've always used a dial gauge. I have a timing light, but never tried using it on the 550. May give it a try as it's a faff with the dial gauge.
Currently without a GT, but looking

yes worth as try , I’m sure the dial gauge is very precise but may b just a bit easier with a strobe light Harry
