Re: GT550B timing
The 550 is anti clockwise, 380 and 750 are clockwise. If you press down slowly on the kick start you will see which direction the crankshaft rotates.

Re: GT550B timing
The arrow doesn't make sense does it. My 550A owners manual shows the same. Looks like it's a misprint. Or they have used the picture from the 380 manual.2strokejohnny wrote: ↑Sat Apr 10, 2021 12:24 pm thanks got confused with the arrow direction in the owners manual for the gt550b,John

Re: GT550B timing
when I timed my gt550b I turned the crank clockwise, and it ran ok , but now you are saying the right way is anti-clockwise, well may explain why it’s running like crap and I can’t ride it grrrrr , like I said to Alan h , I’m not very good with electrical timing and stuff like that , mayb try again guys ,

Re: GT550B timing
It's anti clockwise when turning the crank from the alternator side. It's recommended to put a spanner on this side as it's directly on the crank. Basically, it's the direction the engine runsFrankibaby7 wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 8:50 am when I timed my gt550b I turned the crank clockwise, and it ran ok , but now you are saying the right way is anti-clockwise, well may explain why it’s running like crap and I can’t ride it grrrrr , like I said to Alan h , I’m not very good with electrical timing and stuff like that , mayb try again guys , C07D5238-755A-4266-B98A-FC7DF05BBDDC.jpeg

Re: GT550B timing
According to Suzuki, you turn the crankshaft anticlockwise, which is in the reverse direction of rotation.
Standing on the RHS(points side) of the bike, the crankshaft turns clockwise when the engine is running.
Therefore after setting the cylinder in question to TDC, you need to turn the crank anti-clockwise from the perspective of the RHS/points plate so that when the engine is running, the spark plug fires before the piston reaches TDC.
From the shop manual:
