GT380K Shock mount thread

Good morning.
My subtle spannering has caused me to strip a thread on my rear shock mount. I’ve cleaned the thread but now can’t safely torque down the shock absorber - can’t tighten the nut without it slipping. Options I’ve considered - cut down to smaller diameter and re-thread ( but don’t like the idea), somehow remove old shocker mounting from frame and fit a new one ( is this possible?) or botch with p.t.f.e. tape.

What do you suggest - I’m sure I’m not the first to have had the same problem. Cheers.

Had the same problem on my 750. I bought a new bush from ASTRAX on this site and welded it in place, not a easy fix and a lot of work stripping and getting the old bush out.

I bought the threaded version from Astarx for my 550. You need to take great care when drilling and tapping for it but it works a treat. Kev

I had the same issue many years ago on a GT380,, the nut would only tighten a few threads before it slipped. What I did was to clean and dregrease the thread and nut and then use plenty of Araldite on the thread and did it up till the point it slipped. This was still good many years later when I sold the bike. There's not a lot of sideways force on that bolt, so it worked for me.This was of course before replacment bolts were available, but I'de do the same again. good luck with it.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. Seems like it’s going to be tough graft to do the job properly.

I've had a look and I have made some screw in inserts for the GT380
They do not need welding, but need to be able to accurately drill and tap the part left in the frame M12 x 1.25, then this stud will screw in and look the same as the original, minus the rust and damaged threads :lol:

The second and third photo shows the part that would be left in the frame as the stud screws in.
I can't find any 380 ones at the moment, but will carry on looking if you need one, I think they are 2mm different in length than the GT750 ones shown in the photos.

I won't answer the eBay message as you are a member here, it is easier than eBay messaging.

A couple of possibly daft ideas, but I'll put them out there anyway!

1) Is there enough decent thread left for you to be able to tighten if you put an extra washer under the nut (ie avoiding the stripped part)?
2) I don't suppose that there's enough "meat" left to be able to cut a new thread with a die? I had an issue on my RD350B, where a previous owner had tried to force a nut with the wrong thread pitch on to it and had feked it up. I took a chance, bought a M10 x 1.25 pitch die and was able to re-cut a thread.
