Thanks guys, I set the float levels at 26mm. That didn’t work, so tried various levels, Up to 30mm, Still overflowed after a couple of days. The floats are new, so I presume they are fine. I’ve blown down the fuel pipe whilst moving the floats up and down, and they seem to be opening and sealing correctly.
So all seems to be working, which does suggest a problem with the fuel tap. I have a spare tap from another bike, which I know is ok, so will try fitting that tomorrow and see what happens..

As an update gents, its been 2/3 days since I changed the fuel tap for another one, and so far so good, no overflow issues..So its beginning to look like the seals in the original petcock are bad.I will get a repair kit, from somewhere, and hopefully, happy days!
Thanks for your helpful suggestions guys
many thanks
