Welcome to the mad house. 550 is like a very slightly smaller 750 but weighs about a ton less and that is a huge advantage. Stock they don't make a huge amount of power but despite popular opinion, even the older models can be persuaded to make a lot more power without self destructing. Starter clutches are a bit of a worry, but other than that they are neat old bikes.

Don't let Alan know I said this, but fit a modern electronic ignition and solid state Regulator/rectifier plus relays for ignition and headlight circuits and you should have a lot of fun with it.

Leave it alone and you'll have just as much fun with a 550. 8-)

Or throw it in the skip and get a proper two stroke triple a Kawasaki H1 and save yourself a load of headache :tw

I'm a 4 stroke guy and only joined as a mate tipped me off that a guy on here was selling an early GS750. I've been looking for one for a while but I think I might have missed it as I've been away with work.
I'm not sure pictures of my bikes would be of much interest here :D
