Yeh as good as the wiring diagram is, it doesn’t have an orange live with a green marker on it

Look at this one for the 550. It is the same set up as the 380 (Apart from the starter solenoid wire which isn't relevant )

Re: GT380M Restoration
Found my issue! Pattern rear light is wired the wrong way! Luckily still had the genuine lamp, so will switch out the bulb holder for the fresh plastics.

Just swap the wires over where the bullet connectors join.

Re: GT380M Restoration
If only it was that easy! The bulb now works in reverse. Ie. The high watt element comes on for the dipped headlight and the lower watt comes on for the brake.
I still had the genuine brake light and it worked perfectly so I have a bit of work in swapping out the plastics while keeping the genuine bulb holder and cable

Re: GT380M Restoration
There is another slight quirk and maybe normal but with me being new to a classic bike thought i'd ask.
Sometimes when coming to a stop with headlamp off, the bike will idle slightly higher, maybe around 2k-2.5k. As soon as I put headlamp on and put a load on the engine, it drops down to 1500k. Is this normal enough behaviour with a bike this age?
If I switch the lamp off then, it doesn't rise in revs.

Re: GT380M Restoration
Are you sure this is related to the headlamp? The problem you have is called a hanging idle which is more often than not caused by sticking throttle cables, usually the return cable.

Good shout! I’m nearly sure it is caused by putting load on the engine from the headlamp but I will have a look the next time it happens to see how quickly the throttle arm moves back down.

Or the bulb has been forced in upside down. Seen that before too.
