clutch very heavy to operate

After my engine rebuild the bike runs perefect.
There is only one thing I just cant seem to get sorted.
To operate the clutch you really need to be a body builder.
The cable is fine and running smooth, adjustment of the clutch is according to the manual and the basket is undamaged so no grooves.'
Standard springs or EBC ones don't make no difference.
Did re-route the cable 2 times but I just can't get it to work with acceptable force.
After riding for an hour on the backroads my wrist starts aching badly and I just can hardly operate the clutch.
Is the GT known for such a heavy operated clutchlever?

Any tips welcome.

I have to say that mine is heavy too on my 750, with everything checked as you have. However, the one on my gt380 is as light as a feather to operate. I wish the 750 one was the same.I can't see why it's like it. I have a genuine cable, it's routed correctly and the springs, plates and adjuster and balls are ok. It's a mystery, so I too would welcome any comments.

Have you oiled the cable? Also, copper grease on the star plate with the three ball bearings is helpful. Kev

Another thing that can cause this issue is ridges on the fingers of the clutch basket. With age and constant vibration the clutch steel plates can cause these ridges which can be present on the inside of the basket. They can be smoothed with gentle rubbing with wet or dry paper which will make the action smoother and easier.

And use an oem cable. Aftermarket cheapo chinkies are crap.

Don't know whether my current cable is an OEM one. (suppose it should be since about everything I took apart was OEM, even the brakeshoes)
Do have an aftermarket one in stock which is brand new.

I will ride the bike like this first and will check the clutchbasket later in the season.

Finally found some time to take off the petroltank and rerouted the clutch cable.
Now have it run completely free, clutch runs smooth.
Not as smooth as a hydraulic operated one but still very acceptable.
What to do next?
Can't have it routed alongside of the fueltank.
Any suggestions?

Operated the clutch again this morning and found it felt easy to operate but with quite a rough feel.
Took the basket out and found the grooves worn in from the clutchplates.
How do I solve this?
