Testing digital indicator
Re: Testing digital indicator
I bought one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320920824431? ... 1439.l2649 & fettled the bracket for the indicator a bit by cutting out most of the back of the bracket so that the cables wouldn't have to bend 90 degrees & bonded it in with epoxy resin, like Suzuki did all those years ago. It works a treat & actually seems brighter than the original one. All I've got to do now is make a new loom & I've got the indication system sorted. The only original bits left are the screws that hold it together!!

Re: Testing digital indicator
Grubbytech, that's a remarkable piece of work if you've pulled it off! Cheap also.
Was it easy enough to trace what wire went where in the GT loom?
I'm tempted to get one!
One question - perhaps using test wire, have you been able to show that when each lead is grounded, a number lights up ( or N displayed)?
Cheers, and good luck with the loom bit, Mike

Re: Testing digital indicator
In case you haven't worked it out the N = G is a green N indication on the LED indicator. Your choice if you want to wire this in to the blue wire of the Suzuki loom. I'm leaving off out so it still looks standard when the bike's in neutral.

Re: Testing digital indicator
Well we're all in the same boat together with rising spares prices. It's the least I can do considering there was a very 2nd hand looking indicator for £65 on fleabay recently with no guarantees that I would work!
Just noticed an error in my diagram. gear indicator 2 should be R/B on the bike's loom, sorry about that.
Also I didn't mention that the digital gear indicator that you get from China has a female connector for the live bus, this has to be changed for a male bullet connector. On the B/W cable from the dash lights blank it off as it's no longer needed.
In order to carry out this mod you will need a 2.8mm non insulated blade terminal extraction tool, or do what I did & butcher a screwdriver!

New LED Gear Indicator - Questions
Hello - I also brought one of these new style units from the same supplier on ebay and I'm just about to fit it, however I would appreciate some answers to the following points:
1. Do you remove the black peel off face or is that meant to stay in place for the correct operation?
2. Wiring - In this link: http://www.kettleclinic.co.uk/kcforum/v ... 1&start=10, grubbytech provided a wiring colour reference for the new LED coloured wires to the existing coloured wiring loon which most helpful, however the original factory LED has an orange wire which is the power wire and a black & white wire which I assume will be the earth N wire. With the new LED unit, the red and white wire is the power wire which will contact to the orange wire, but what wire connects to the existing black & white wire?
3. Testing - Once you have matched all of the coloured wires in the instructions and plug, is there a way to test the operation of all the gear LED gear positions before refitting the instruments back on to the bike?
