Hi All,Hope you can help.
Went to start mt GT750 A today and no luck, Good fuel & Fully charged Battery.
Checked the plugs and noticed that they only sparked when I released the starter button.
The bike started last week no problem.

Re: Problem Starting
Sounds like the battery has lost a few volts. Try charging it up and see if that works.

Re: Problem Starting
Does that mean you are using kick start only when you are getting a spark
Have you a Electronic ignition fitted to the bike nathern

Re: Problem Starting
Hi
With the starter pressed it only sparks when I release the button, using the kick start it sparks correctly.
I full charged the battery over night ,cleaned the plugs & tried to start just using the kickstart,it felt like it was going to start but would not fire up.
I have a netronic system fitted which is 2 years old & ive checked the timing.

Re: Problem Starting
Sounds like as Teazer says the battery they loose a bit of cranking power.
EI units need batteries to be in tip top condition.
Dutch on the forum recently had the same problem his battery also showed 12.6v.

Re: Problem Starting
Thanks for the replies
I've recharged the battery using my car battery charger & when completed it showed 12.88v.
The bike started 3rd kick but ran rough for about 30 seconds then cleared and settled down to a steady tickover.
After 3 minutes I shut it off, waited about 5 mins then tried on the starter button, took 2 attempts but it started and ran ok.
Going to leave it overnight and see what happens in the morning.
Thanks again for the info.

Re: Problem Starting
That does suggest that the charging system works and that the battery is not holding a charge and needs to be replaced.
Check the voltage when you press the starter button and after you release it to see what the voltage is under load.
There are lots of other possibilities from the starter requiring a higher voltage to crank, through to possible jetting issues, but I would start (all puns intended) with the battery. You could also add a relay to the ignition system as outlined in a recent thread to get a few more of those lazy electrons moving.
And cold weather drops battery voltage at the same time as making the oil thicker and the motor harder to turn over.
