Just got my lads 550 barrels back from IMD following a rebore, the edges of the ports seem really sharp, should I chamfer the edge with a burr to stop the rings getting caught
Cheers

Re: Chamfering ports
+1 for chamfering the ports, its a must really, about a 32 degree angle is what I was told and about 1mm all round the ports (top, bottom and sides) any more can start to have an affect on the port timing.
Also make sure there is no swarf in any part of the cylinder, inside or out.
PJME do this for you.

Re: Chamfering ports
When I rebuilt the gt750L engine I put a Chamfer on the ports. That engine is still running fine.
When I rebuilt the engine on my 550J I had the crank rebuilt but did not re-bore the cylinders. They were on the standard size and had razor sharp ports. I thought that was how Mr Suzuki had left them. So did not put a Chamfer on them. The engine has done some 6000+ miles since then and is running fine.
I would still have preferred to have put a small Chamfer on. Its not cheap fixing these old engines anymore.

Chamfering the ports prevents excessive wear on the rings,
