Neutral detent

Post by bosco659 »

On my ‘75, neutral is pretty easy to find, but when shifting into neutral there isn’t a positive click in the transmission. I’m suspecting a weak or possibly missing spring on the detent assembly. It appears the cap and plunger are still available from Suzuki but the spring isn’t. Does anyone have a spring they can measure for me and I’ll try to match one up.

Can this assembly be removed and replaced without problems that would necessitate disassembly of the engine cases? If there’s a risk of problems I may leave well enough alone.

None of the bikes I've had have a positive click into neutral its just a case of gently tapping the lever till you find it

Removed the mechanism and the spring for the detent was missing. Replaced it and it’s fine now. Can feel neutral now through the shifter.
