The kick starter on my gt250 doesn't stay in the open or closed position, it doesn't "click."
Does anyone know how to repair this please?

There should be a spring and a ball bearing at the end of the kickstart lever. If you remove the swivelling pedal grom the boss at the gearbox end, there should be a hole where the ball and spring go. If the hole is empty, then measure the diameter, and get a ball and spring that 'just' drop in the hole. The spring goes in first with the ball a full 'ball' stuck out if you get what I mean. The ball should go into the detent on the bit that clamps onto the kickstart shaft and hold the kicker in either position.

Steve Cooper in the VJMC sells a kick-start repair kit for the T500- I would think its the same as the 250

I contacted Steve Cooper of VJMC and he sent out one of his kits.
The problem is, the existing ball bearings are jammed in tight as well as there being corrosion. Will they shift? Will they ....
So, lots of WD40 and then I'll try Steve's suggestion of heating the pivot and hitting it very hard against a hard surface, maybe that will free them.
I'll let you know.

Use boiling water for heat, very effective and a lot less destructive than flame

In conclusion.
Nothing worked, so I handed the spigot over to the lads in Feltwell garage.
A bit more heat than I could give and the ball bearings along with the spring were driven out, severely corroded.
I cleaned the hole in the spigot with a slow driven drill bit, applied copper slip and put the lot back together.
The kit from Steve Cooper worked a treat.
Apologies for the late update. I picked up a minor injury to my back and shoulder at work and only now can work on the bike.
