They were really full of crap and after 46 years of abuse were less than optimal so after attempts to scour them clean and make them as they were originally, they went in the bin.
New 2t semi synthetic oil, newly rebuilt and cleaned engine - inside & out, rebuilt oil pump and stripped & cleaned oilways + non return valves should do the trick.
Remember that these bikes (mainly!!) don't get spanked by 21 year olds nowadays, so a good quality rebuild using modern lubricant in the engine department should last for many years.
It takes longer than planned, but all my rebuilds, once settled, start on the button and mainly run great.

No signs of the oil pump gaskets yet - 'in the post' between Portsmouth & here somewhere -  - so fitted the chain & chainguard and lined the wheel up. Need some bearings & seals for the clutch cover, but got sidetracked by a request to go to the pub to celebrate yesterdays bd........

Hi Alan, happy belated birthday greetings for yesterday mate (thought birthdays came up as a notification on here???)

I knew you were a lot older than me ;) but wasn't sure which day in August, so again hbd and don't drink too much, cos at your age falling over is easy, but getting back up again isn't

Cheers, your young mate Steve from GRIMsby.
Look, my paintwork hasn't got "Fish scales" :x they're "Dragon scales" right!!! However, after some thought, I will accept "Black Marlin" or "Swordfish", but definitely not "Haddock" or "Cod".

Sounds like plan Al, how does Seaways sound in the next week or so? If we can sort a date, perhaps we can tempt others to join us for a clinic get together :D
Anyone interested?

Friday's definitely damp, Thursday looks cloudy but dry round the Wetwang/Fridaythorpe area.
So Thursday's good for me. 8-)
Anyone else?
